In order for a religious wedding to be legally binding a couple need to first have a civil ceremony. The couple need to apply to the civil status office in Victoria to make an appointment for a civil wedding and to a relevant church body for a religious ceremony. The couple must be in the Seychelles for at least 2 days before their wedding and photocopies of the documentation needs to be sent at least two months in advance. Documents include birth certificates, copies of the first 2 pages of the passport, and a letter of no impediment. Couples who have been divorced or widowed will need to produce certificates to this effect too. A special stamp (apostille) is required to validate the marriage certificate from the civil ceremony and this is obtained from the Registrar's Office in Victoria.
