Getting Married in Slovenia
If you're looking for a European destination at which to get married then why not consider Slovenia. With the magical words “love” within its name, Slovenia has romance in abundance. Imagine a winter fairytale wedding with a snow covered alpine back drop and a horse and carriage taking you to your church. Or how about getting married in a castle perched on a rocky cliff overlooking Lake Bled? Weddings abroad in Slovenia will make your special day unforgettable and with plenty of things to see and do, it also offers a perfect honeymoon location too.
In Slovenia only a civil ceremony is recognised as legally binding although this can be followed with a religious ceremony as well. A couple need to register their intention to get married with the registry office located in the area where they want to get married. This must be no later than 14 days before the intended day and no more than 6 months before. Documents required by both parties include birth certificates, passports, certificates of non impediment issued by your country's embassy, and if you've been divorced or widowed, certificates to this effect. All documents must be translated into Slovene and notarised. Once the paperwork has been received you can set a date, and the marriage certificate will be issued as soon as the ceremony has been performed.
