The capital city, Doha, is lively and cosmopolitan and a great place in which to start your sightseeing. The Spiral Mosque is not a traditional looking mosque but looks more like a giant helter skelter. It is in fact a replica of the Great mosque of Al-Mutawwaki which can be found in Samarra in Iraq and at night times is is illuminated and lights up the sky. A visit to the restored Qatai dwelling in the Ethnographic Museum of Doha is like stepping back in time and gives a fascinating insight into life before the oil boom. To get away from Doha a visit to the Inland Sea is recommended. Here you'll find a large turquoise watered lake in the middle of the desert surrounded by sand dunes. You can also experience camel racing at the racetrack at al Shahaniya. Another way of seeing Qatar is by taking a cruise on a traditional dhow and soaking up the sights as you sit back and relax.
