Getting Married in Malta

Marriage Requirements


The law states that marriages in Malta must comply with the provisions of the Marriage Act 1975. A couple wishing to get married must request the publication of the wedding banns at the Registry in Valletta no more than three months before their intended wedding date and at least six weeks before. The documents needed by both parties will be birth certificates, a declaration of freedom to marry (Form RZ2), certificate of no-impediment, and copies of their passports. The Licence to Marry will be issued by the Registrar 10 days before the wedding date and can be collected upon arrival in Malta. The Wedding Certificate will be issued immediately after the ceremony.
