Getting Married in Iceland
If you're looking for a unique destination to get married where one ninth of the stunning landscape is covered by glaciers, and hot springs, then why not consider Iceland. Located in the mid Atlantic Ocean, Iceland offers once in a lifetime experiences like no other country. Offering both religious and civil ceremonies, you can get married in tiny chapels, quaint churches or larger banquet venues, and with plenty of locations in which to hold a reception party, weddings abroad in Iceland are truly memorable.
Both parties need to be staying legally in Iceland to get married and this is easily proved by either a passport stamp, flight ticket or residency permit. Both parties must be over 18 and marriage documents need to be received 2 weeks before the intended date of marriage. Copies can be faxed and the originals need to be handed in by no later than 5 days before the wedding date. The documents needed are a form of no impediment which must be signed by both parties and two witnesses. A certificate of marital status, birth certificates and divorce or death certificates, if applicable. Once the wedding ceremony has taken place, the Marriage Certificate can be collected from the National Registry Office.
