If you dream of recreating the royal wedding and getting married in England, this dream could easily become a reality. Getting married in England could mean saying your vows in vibrant London, taking in iconic sights such as Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and Big Ben. Maybe getting married in England for you is all about the green countryside, or the romantic windswept coasts. You could even extend your stay and enjoy your honeymoon in England as well. Where ever you choose to get married in England, it can be relatively straightforward and easy with the following legal advice.
It is entirely legal to get married in England and the marriage will be recognised by Canadian law providing that the wedding in England is legal over there, and that your marriage would have been legal if it had taken place in Canada. If you wish to get married in England, or in most places abroad, you could be asked for a ‘Certificate of Non-Impediment’ when you apply for a marriage licence. These are not issued in Canada, however you can apply for a ‘Statement In-Lieu of Certificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad’.
