When it comes to planning your wedding, costs can soon spiral out of control, so it really does pay to set a budget and then stick to it. You’ll be surprised at how, with a little creativity and ingenuity, you can still have everything you want for your wedding and not stray over your budget. Here are some suggestions for cutting down the costs of your wedding:

Costs

Create Your Own Wedding Stationery

Making your own stationery can save a lot of money and what’s more, it will impress people when they realise that their wedding invitation has been hand made by you. If you’re having a themed wedding then incorporate this into your invitations to help set the tone for your day plus guests will have more of an idea what to expect. Craft shops and online stores do a great selection of pre shaped cards, wedding stickers and transfers and you can also embellish your stationery with beads, ribbons and sequins. Alternatively, you could buy packs of pretty post cards, and then print the information on to them. If you can do calligraphy, or have a friend who can, then perhaps they would write the invitations as a wedding gift for you.

Make Your Own Cake

Buying a wedding cake can be very expensive so why not think about asking a friend, or your mum, to make one for you. Cup cake wedding cakes are very much in demand and are the easiest to make and decorate. The only limits with these is your imagination.

Go Vintage

As anyone who has looked at wedding dresses knows, usually the dress you like best is the most expensive. Why not consider a pre owned dress? Even brands such as Sophia Tolli or Maggie Sottero can sell for as much as 50% off the retail price, giving brides the option of affording a luxury, high end gown at a fraction of the price. Many shops sell pre-owned dresses, or you can search online or try sites like eBay.

Instead of going for the expensive option of a sit down meal, you can make a huge saving by choosing to have a buffet for your wedding breakfast. Depending on the time of the year you could have a mixture of hot and cold dishes. If you have a large family who like to bake, then perhaps they could all create the buffet between themselves.
