Superfoods for Healthy Skin

Imagine waking up feeling not just good but looking amazing, and bursting with energy. The period leading up to your wedding can be one of the most stressful times of your life and as a result your skin can often suffer and become dull looking and blotchy. It’s true to say that we are what we eat and so called super foods can actually boost the immune system and make our skins glow and look healthy, which is the look that you want for your wedding, right?

The list of super foods includes everything from basic vegetables to exotic fruits and teas. Whilst you may already know about the benefits of acai and pomegranate here’s a few more to help you on your way.

Sea Buckthorn Berries

These tiny berries are one of the few foods in the world which contain Omega 7. This fatty acid is absolutely incredible for great looking skin and healthy hair according to top nutritionists. The berries are quite delicious and can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes. They go nicely with apples in a tart and they work well in a salsa when combined with peppers, onions and Jalapenos.


These exotic fruits are sweet and juicy and can be eaten alone or used to make delicious desserts from sorbets to a clafouti. They are full of anti oxidants and can help anti-ageing as well as protecting against cancer.

Rooibos Tea

This herbal tea is fast growing in popularity in South Africa and has many health benefits. Not only does it contain anti oxidants which fight against disease but it also contains magnesium, fluoride and calcium which build strong bones. In addition it has properties which help to smooth out the skin and it can also be applied externally to itchy skin.


These great little berries are one of the top super foods for your skin and contain more anti oxidants and fibre than any other food. Blueberries prevent cell structure damage which is what causes fine lines and wrinkles to appear on the skin. They’re very versatile and can be eaten with cereal or in desserts or with yoghurt.


Many people consider bananas to be fattening but this is a bit of a myth. They are high in energy and the calories come mainly from carbohydrates which makes them an excellent food to refuel the body. They are crammed with vitamin B which is good for the hair and skin and potassium which helps lower the blood pressure. In essence, they’re the perfect food to pick up and eat on the go, when you’re busy dashing around finalising all of your wedding plans.
