Pink Power: Shop For The Cure

by COLLEEN CARLISLE

As the most common cancer among Canadian women, breast cancer is a disease the Hitched! community is all too aware of. According to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (CBCF), one in nine Canadian women will likely develop breast cancer in their lifetime - approximately two thirds of these women are expected to live through it. Thanks to increased awareness, early screening and developments in the treatments of this disease, the death rate from breast cancer is the lowest it has been since 1950.

Breast cancer awareness month endeavours to raise funds to further improve the lives of women - by finding ways to both prevent cancer and treat those who have it more effectively. Besides donating directly to the cause, you can buy items where a portion of each sale goes to the CBCF (and load up on a lot of pink stuff while you're at it!). Ready to put some bucks down for your boobs? Check out five of our favourites this year:

Payless Shop For the Cure BraceletPayless Shop For the Cure BraceletPayless Bracelet
Every dollar counts when it comes to charity and a certain citron cyclist made a major impact selling his infamous bracelets to support cancer awareness by subscribing to this theory.

This year, Payless ShoeSource has taken a similar idea and made it stylish, too! With their 6th annual Taking Steps to Fight Breast Cancer program, their version features a dangling charm from an adjustable multi-strand pink bracelet with several floating silver-toned beads.

It sells for just $3 and 100% of the profits will be donated to the CBCF. Payless and it’s shoppers have raised millions of dollars so far and we’d love to help them continue.

WonderBra
Doesn’t it make sense that a bra should give back to breast cancer? Support those they, well, support? For about $40 you can get your hands on the WonderBra limited edition bra in style 7472. The ultimate in support this style features fully-lined pretty lace in a very flattering colour.

This is WonderBra’s tenth year as a proud contributor to the CBCF and will donate $5 from the purchase of this bra to the cause.

Cashmere Pink Bathroom TissueCashmere Pink Bathroom TissueCashmere Bathroom Tissue
There’s something adorably retro about pink bathroom tissue. It harkens back to poodle skirts and saddle shoes and a time with things seemed simpler.

Canada’s best selling bathroom tissue, re-introduces Cashmere Pink, with twenty-five cents from each package sold going directly to The Foundation.

Cashmere BT Couture has also returned this year with gorgeous styles incorporating the pink tissue. You can view the entire collection online at Cashmere.ca. These works of art (see video here) feature the works of established and up-and-coming Canadian designers, which we feel very strongly about as well.

GoneShopping.ca
A Hitched! favourite, online retailer goneshopping.ca has opened a Pink Boutique. Stocked with their best items, in pink, they will donate 10% of each purchase made from the boutique in the month of October to the CBCF.

Additionally, they have made up a couple of All in Pink Kits which feature some of their top sellers like the Klean Kanteen, the RuMe bags and purse caddies. Delightful!

Dyson in Pink!Dyson in Pink!Dyson
A Hitched! girl’s beloved vacuum has become even more becoming. With gorgeous new pink versions of the DC25 Ball upright ($599.99) and the DC23 Motorhead canister ($649.99), Dyson Canada has pledged to donate $50,000 to the CBCF this year. That doesn’t suck at all!

We can’t say enough about this brand and we really love seeing a company giving back in such a big way.

Mad Style

Let it be known – I love, love, love every Technicolor inch of Mad Men. Set in the early 1960s, AMC’s golden child has meticulously recreated life at an advertising agency in Kennedy-era Manhattan, all for our viewing pleasure. There are several ways a clever writer could reference this show for a smart, thought-provoking article: the rise of feminism, diversity in the workplace, the merits of advertising, living with adultery – unfortunately, dear reader, a clever writer you have not. Instead, this article is about the PRETTY, PRETTY things they wear.
