Winter + Indoors + Him

by JEN BYCK

So, the holidays are dunzo are you’re left with month after month of un-festive winter. This season is a bittersweet beast. On one hand, it’s peaceful. It’s crisp. It’s oh-so-Canadian. It inspires baked goods, log fires and cozy sweaters. On the other hand, it’s cold. It’s isolating. It’s dark. It inspires runny noses, shivers and cabin-fever. Regardless of the side you focus on, chances are that you and hubs will be spending a lot of time together. If you’re stuck inside reading independently (you: a witty and deep novel about the human condition, him: some lame pop-up book about the history of hockey) or if you’re “stuck together” in bed (tee hee), here’s some music to match the setting.

Many props and thanks to Barry Lachapelle who stayed with us last month and unloaded his iPhone Gold onto our D: drive – otherwise, a great many of these artists would be unknown to me (and maybe to you!).

Yet another note: Many of these songs are Elliot Smith-esque. Doctors suggest that if you have a temptation to stab yourself in the heart, do not play any of these.

1. Below It- Peter Broderick
2. Blood On the Snow – Horse Feathers
3. Misty Eyes - Ohbijou
4. No One’s Gonna Love You – Band of Horses
5. Skinny Love – Bon Iver
6. Song No. 6 – Ane Brun featuring Ron Sexsmith
7. When Lost at Sea – Wooden Sky
8. White Winter Hymnal – Fleet Foxes
9. Winter Song - Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson
10. Yes, I’m Cold - Chris Bathgate

Break-Ups, Make-Ups and Everything In Between

The site may be called Hitched, but we don’t always stay that way here (in fact, we have an UnHitched section in our forum). It’s life. We break-up, we make-up and sometimes we break-up again. Some days you want him dead, other days, you want him in bed.

Rufus Humphrey's Celebrity iTunes Playlist

For those who are not Gossip Girl fans, I apologize – this entire soundtrack will seem like one big inside joke to you. Instead, just think of it as an early 90’s rock flashback and ignore the quips (or join in the fun – Gossip Girl airs Monday nights on The CW and A-Channel at 8pm EST.). But for those who are already familiar with GG's Rufus Humphrey - a man who is proud to be both a dad and an aging lead singer of the fictional alt-rock band, Lincoln Hawk - this Bud’s for you.

Resolutions Remixed

It’s January - which means someone is bound to ask you: Have any New Year’s resolutions? And we all have typical answers – lose weight, manage money better, be a better citizen, work on relationships, reduce stress, blah blah blah. None of them sound particularly fun. Let’s break that cycle, shall we?
