Flight of the Conchords

Brent + Jemaine + You: True, crazy love always.Picture it: Two young, handsome, and talented New Zealanders come to New York City to make it big. Only, wait. Well, they're sort of young. And handsome? Maybe not the classic definition, but they're certainly their own brand of adorable. And talented? Again, not the kind your mom raves about. But the kind you can't help but go wild for. If you're Mel.
Meet Bret and Jemaine, also known as Flight of the Conchords. The awkwardly charming duo works with its manager, Murray (who naturally holds all band meetings at the New Zealand Consulate, where he is employed), in a desperate and ongoing attempt to get shows. The band has one fan - a hilarious desperate stalker named Mel (yes, she's married, and yes, her husband Doug is her reluctant stalking assistant). Oh, and every time something happens, they break into ridiculous song about it.
What kind of song? Oh, we're not talking your classic musical.
We're talking "It's Business Time", a song Jemaine gets into after fantasizing about a woman who tells him she has always just wanted to settle down - so they do it on Wednesdays with his socks on, because there's nothing better on TV.
We're talking "Part Time Model", wherein Jemaine crushes madly on a hottie at a party, who he's convinced is so babe-tastic that she could be a waitress, an air hostess from the sixties, or (you guessed it) a part time model - though she shouldn't quit her day job.
We're talking "HipHopopottamus versus Rhymenocerous", involving Bret and Jemaine's attempt to get more street so that they can more appropriately avoid the terrifying warfare in The Big City.
We're talking "A Kiss is Not A Contract", which comes up after poor Bret is seduced by a woman who wants to get into his pants and he's prompted to sing: "Just because you've been exploring my mouth doesn't mean you get to take an expedition to the south."
You have to, have to, have to love this show. On HBO/The Movie Network in Canada (and Rogers on Demand if you've got it), hunt down the first season and also their standup routine on HBO's One Night Stand if you can't get enough.
2009 Holiday TV Guide
If you were to name all the things you like about the December holidays, campy TV specials would probably make it somewhere on the list.
Bitten & Smitten: Why Women Love Vampires
With the countdown on for the second season of True Blood (PVR Alert: HBO Canada, Sunday, June 14, 9pm EST), vampire fever is in the air.
Is It Summer Yet?
Alright … now this is more like it! The warmer weather is finally becoming a more frequent occurrence (unless you live in Saskatoon. Has it stopped snowing yet, ladies?) and we can start venturing out without a jacket. Well, some of the time.
Rufus Humphrey's Celebrity iTunes Playlist
For those who are not Gossip Girl fans, I apologize – this entire soundtrack will seem like one big inside joke to you. Instead, just think of it as an early 90’s rock flashback and ignore the quips (or join in the fun – Gossip Girl airs Monday nights on The CW and A-Channel at 8pm EST.). But for those who are already familiar with GG's Rufus Humphrey - a man who is proud to be both a dad and an aging lead singer of the fictional alt-rock band, Lincoln Hawk - this Bud’s for you.
