A Fall TV Primer: Tuesdays

by SHANNON MCKARNEY

All right kiddies, bulk yourself up: Today we determine your evening activities for the next 8 months of Tuesdays. Confirm all times with your local listings, we refuse to be accountable for your show-missing quandaries.

Tuesday Drama

The Tudors: What fate will this wife meet? The Tudors: What fate will this wife meet?New this fall: CBC brings a new series coproduced with Showtime called The Tudors to Canadian viewers. Based on the early life of King Henry VII, The Tudors stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers as King Henry, in a story we've all heard before - but this looks a whole lot dirtier than history class. Whee!
Tuesday, October 2nd on CBC, time unavailable.

New this fall: CTV premieres the new drama from CW, Gossip Girl. Based on the bestselling Gossip Girl teen novels, this series is a brilliant mashup of teenage bitchiness and backstabbing on the Upper West Side. In addition to the nastiness, who could not love a show built around a blog? The series premieres Wednesday, September 19 at 9pm on its original station CW, and Tuesdays in Canada.
Tuesday, September 18 at 8pm on CTV.

Pushing Daisies: ABC gets adventurous in this quirky new drama.Pushing Daisies: ABC gets adventurous in this quirky new drama.New this fall: Pushing Daisies is a new series of which, if ABC's buzz department has done its job, you've probably already heard. Another original concept, this appearing-slightly-drug-induced theme is from the director of Men in Black and The Addams Family - and it shows. Sweet and macabre, with videoscapes reminiscent of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Pushing Daisies is about a man who has the capability of bringing dead people back to life - or making live people dead - with one touch, including his long lost childhood love. The catch? If he touches her again, she's dead - for good. Definitely odd, but definitely worth at least one hour of your life.
Wednesday, October 3 at 8pm on ABC
Tuesday, October 2 at 8pm on CTV.

Did you know that NCIS has been around for 5 seasons? Me neither! With TV veteran Mark Harmon and sweetheart Lauren Holly, this military version of CSI seems to have some staying power. However, seeing Mark Harmon with a full head of grey hair just makes me feel old.
Tuesday, September 25 at 8pm on CBS.

As a Buffy fan, I was sceptical of David Boreanaz's shift into non-vampire primetime. However, Bones is an interesting - although formulaic - crime drama, and DB has undeniable chemistry with his slightly annoying show namesake, played by Emily Deschanel.
Tuesday, September 25 at 8pm on Fox and Global.

The Unit: Kick ass. Take names. And be totally hot.The Unit: Kick ass. Take names. And be totally hot.The Unit and its droolworthy cast are back. The Army Special Ops drama showcases a buff Scott Foley (Felicity who?)and a kicking-ass/taking-names Dennis Haybert. (The latter in particular has shone in his role as a no bullshit, can o'whoopass unit leader in previous seasons, and no doubt he'll do it again.)
Tuesday, September 25 at 9pm on CBS.

Brits were dubious that goofball Hugh Laurie could pull off vicodin-addicted crabbyassed House. Their doubts were quashed, as both his acting and American accent are flawless - with the exception of that wrong-handed cane. Returning for season four, the brilliant one-liners keep it fresh - although the weekly formula of almost killing the patient before saving her ass from the brink of death is getting a little old. [Ed: A little? I swear, I saw it twice and thought I hated Hugh Laurie, 'til I realized he was historically hilarious. This is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it, but whatever side of the fence you're on, its return reminds even us haters that it's a hit.]

Rufus Humphrey's Celebrity iTunes Playlist

For those who are not Gossip Girl fans, I apologize – this entire soundtrack will seem like one big inside joke to you. Instead, just think of it as an early 90’s rock flashback and ignore the quips (or join in the fun – Gossip Girl airs Monday nights on The CW and A-Channel at 8pm EST.). But for those who are already familiar with GG's Rufus Humphrey - a man who is proud to be both a dad and an aging lead singer of the fictional alt-rock band, Lincoln Hawk - this Bud’s for you.
